This receiver rocks! I obtained a Dennon AVR-891 which has a listing of $799 plus it sounded scratch like phase distorted. I have a tuned ear, played trumpet for most many have been involved with good end mobile entertainment for over 25 years. I attended Best to buy and went into their magnolia room and there was a pair of B&W 61/2" book shelf speakers for $799 playing Simon and Garfunkle. It sounded scratchy just such as the Denon receiver I merely returned to Fry's. Specialists which receiver was on and he pointed towards the Dennon, I knew it, I asked him to wear the Pioneer Elite VSX-32 on and yes it sounded great. I began researching the Pioneer receivers i came through the Onkyo TX-NR609 it can be THX certified and it has Qdeo video processor and started taking a peek at that. The Specs looked clean at 100 watts .08% THD @ 20-20K hz.
Well the Fridays Fry's electronics ad turned up and it turned out their anniversary sale, there was clearly an Onkyo receiver for $299. It was the HT-RC360. I looked with the specs and couldn't find any difference between this receiver and also the TX-NR609 other compared to the THX certification. The unit has the same de-mentions, same specs so I picked it up. WOW is what I should say, I'm running Polk Rti-A3's for fronts mounted on the wall all in THX setup recommendations, Polk Monitor 30's for rear and Velodyne 10, Polk RMC center channel. room size is 10X13 which has a 46" Samsung LN46c630 LCD.
This receiver is neat and effective at pushing some serious current to your speakers. Not just with movies but Madonna Blu-rays, Elton John Big red piano, it can be done to really hear details which i couldn't using the Dennon or my old Sony ES. The piano's, horn's, vocal's are strong and clean at extremely high volumes. I am no more considering the Pioneer Elite. Let me ad the functions are basic, not confusing with simple treble and bass adjustment. There is certainly no multi-band eq, however I don't see that being a negative because I try never to introduce EQ's into my setups. This unit does not need an EQ having a balance of matching speakers. However if you're the type that likes to work with Auddessy you then will be pleased. You'll get your EQ there.
I recommend this receiver to even the audiophiles out there. It'll surprise you.

I paired this HT-RC360 receiver by having an Onkyo 7.1 multichannel audio speaker system Onkyo SKS-HT870 home Theater Speaker System and took it for weekly long test drive. The room I set everything up in wasn't really a room but a loft. As opposed to four walls, I was working with three walls as well as a half wall to the back of the "room". This is a difficult arrangement to get a speaker system but ultimately I utilized to be satisfied using the results. The floor space is roughly 14 feet wide by 12 feet deep. The arrangement is really that the TV and audio equipment are against one 14 foot wall and the listening chairs are contrary to the opposing ½ wall. The two side walls are 12 feet and solid. The speakers are mounted fairly near to where Dolby Labs suggests except that the surround speakers are about 8 feet up and angled down toward the listening area. I did not utilize the rear surround speakers in a very traditional 7.1 configuration but chose the "front high" option provided by Dolby Pro Logic IIz because I truly do not possess a complete back wall. In fact, if the receiver didn't have that option I'd personally be stuck which has a 5.1 setup.
SETUP
Physically setting in the system was a snap. The color coding about the Onkyo speaker wires matches the receiver speaker outputs. Inputs and outputs are clearly marked. I decided to make use of the provided cables and wires to find out how things worked right from the box. If you connect your TV via the one HDMI out, programming might be done via the remote and displayed on the TV screen. At this point, I encountered two ugly traits. First, I can't go back up the setup level tree. I were required to start through the top every time - very annoying. Then, 14 pages later, I became introduced towards the function of the return button - very helpful in navigating the menu but introduced a little late in the game. Second, the manual is not friendly to make use of or very complete for some basic tasks. FEATURES
This receiver has a ton of features so plan on spending weekly or two learning how to make probably the most of the company's capabilities. Below are a few of the quick and straightforward features included that We've found useful:
- Plugging inside a USB key into leading from the receiver to experience content quickly and easily. The interface is very intuitive.
- Internet radio. Using vTuner was seamless and worked without registration. Register if you wish to create and manage favorite stations on your own PC.
- Streaming music from my Windows Media Player 12 equipped PC within the network via dlna was quick to setup and effective.
- The Audyssey 2EQ is quite simple to use and did a fantastic job of testing out my room and calibrating individual speaker output. It saves a ton of person settings (available inside regular menus). The surround effect when finished was outstanding for my 5.1 ATT Uverse and my 7.1 DVD player.
- The listening modes are grouped into four handheld remote control buttons for Movie/TV, Music, Game, and Stereo. Since there are over 40 modes, having them grouped for usefulness is outstanding. Also, exactly the available modes can be found - you may not get DTS-HD as a choice whether it is not a choice from your media being played.
MISCELLANEOUS
The advanced set up consists of 9 menus that lead to other menus that control as well as set everything including I/O assignments, resolutions, converting, digital audio, speaker assignment / adjustment and Audyssey configurations to name only some.

I waited for a couple of weeks to present this system a reasonable amount of use before I wrote my review and We've to state that after deploying it to get a while, I'm extremely pleased while using design and performance of the HT receiver.
I have three HDMI inputs then one analog going in towards the Onkyo (Home Theater PC/Server, Cable Box, XBox and Wii (analog)) also it is driving a 55" Samsung LED TV. I have 5.1 multichannel audio as well as a second zone which are my outdoor patio speakers.
The first thing is if you've got not moved to HDMI, do it. It makes 1 / 2 of your Home Entertainment life MUCH easier.
Setup:
This took about 2 hours total most of which was disconnecting my old non-HDMI home Theater amp and re-routing all in the cables and eliminate the now unnecessary TOSLINK fiber audio cables. Once that's done, hooking inside the Onkyo was pretty easy. Connecting the speaker wires is still kind of your pain to produce sure that all with the wires are going towards the right place, however the Onkyo features a sticker sheet of lables to add for your cable ends which was a nice extra.
The Audyssey sound setup is great. Put the included microphone on a camera tripod and place it in three different listening locations, press go ahead each point and in about 5-6 minutes your speakers levels and equalization are set. You do not have to do anything.
Features:
The On-Screen Display (OSD is nice offers you feedback whenever you hit any with the controls. I was originally planning to go having a cheaper HT receiver without OSD, but I'm glad I went with this particular instead. IMO, the OSD may be worth it.
The capability to setup each input differently is really a great plus. You'll find a way to adjust Audyssey, Audio, Dynamic volume, display name, etc. per source that is nice for the reason that levels per could be quite different. This way, can set it up in order that when you switch derived from of source on the other, you'll not get the ears blasted if someone source's base volume level is higher than another.
As some have already mentioned, the DLNA streaming is great if you've got a media server like Windows Media Player with an ethernet router. You just set Windows Media Player to permit streaming and then the Onkyo should be able to find out all of your respective shared music folders. I set "NET" since the default source for Zone 2 and today I could allow kids watch a movie in Surround sound inside while paying attention to music outside. You can setup the Onkyo drive an automobile the Zone 2 speakers as well, but then it is tied for the main amp and you cannot adjust the quantity of the main speakers and Zone 2 independantly. So, I send the DLNA streaming audio on the Zone 2 line out of the Onkyo. I repurposed my old HT receiver to utilize being a dumb amp simply to drive my outside speakers and take in the line signal through the Onkyo. Now I can have two completely separate audio streams going on the same some time and control the volume of each and every independantly.
It takes the analog input video with the Wii and scales up to 1080p for fullscreen on my TV that is very nice.
Sound:
The multichannel audio is MUCH better using the Onkyo than my old HT receiver since the Audyssey makes all the audio setup a great deal easier. I really could never quite get my old HT receiver to sound right because it was this kind of tedious process with my old amp so I gave up after a while.
So, in conclusion, this amp does a great deal more than its asking price indicates. My only nitpick is the greenish display looks pretty dated, but that is merely an aesthetic issue will have the ability to live with.
